The 911 must be one of the world’s best adverts for the power of continuous product improvement. but never has this car taken such a significant leap as the one that delivered it from 997 to the latest generation 991. With 90 per cent of the car’s mechanical parts new or improved, this 911 features completely new axle dimensions, electromechanical power steering, a construction richer in aluminium and other light weight materials than ever before.
Although larger, more comfortable and practical than the Gen II 997 I was surprised to note like-for-like weight saving of around 45kg over its predecessor (depending on which model you are driving and what extras are fitted of course) and a 20 per cent improvement in torsional rigidity.
Porsche state power figures of 395bhp 3.8-litre and 324 ft/Ibs Torque and the manufacturer says the Carrera S will achieve 32mpg average, which is very impressive indeed given its performance! PDK-equipped cars are further aided by sailing function which sees the engine disconnected from the gearbox via the clutch on periods of trailing throttle, allowing it to roll freely at idle on slight downhill grades. Running a Super Car really doesn’t have to be expensive!
“Once again, Porsche hit the nail absolutely plumb on the head with its most treasured sports car and gone straight back to the top of the class. The 991-generation Porsche 911 is a triumph”
“This is a car that not only sits at the top of the class but also covers pretty much everything that the opposition can throw at it in every area”
Evo Magazine said

“More economical as well as more powerful, the Carrera S averages 32.5mpg and emits just 205g/km in PDK guise. The 911 is amazingly clean for such a powerful car which also brings advantages in terms of running costs”
