Here we have what we consider to be the motoring world’s best value pre-owned SUV 4×4 model, the Infiniti FX!

This is a GT Premium example finished in Metallic Grey with contrasting Black Hide, It’s a super condition 2012/62 registered face lift example face lift version that’s travelled 26,678 miles from new and benefits from a Full Main Dealer Service History. Factory Warranty remains until December 2015, the next service being due November 2015.

Unlike its German rivals the FX GT Premium is extremely well specified without having to visit an extensive extra cost options list with Sat Nav, Cruise Control, Dual Climate Control, Heated/Cooled Seats, Front and Rear Parking Sensors with Rear View Camera with Guidance System, Bluetooth, Electrically Operated Front Seats with Memory, Bose, Headlamp Washers, Heated Retractable Door Mirrors, Auto Headlights, Dipping Rear View Mirror, Multi Function Steering Wheel, Voice Control, Telephone Integration and Electrically Operated Opening/Closing Tailgate, Keyless Entry ALL being standard fit equipment!

The Infiniti (Nissans Luxury Division) FX four-wheel drive model, is a sports off-roader, so sits alongside cars like the Porsche Cayenne and BMW X6, focussing on driver appeal more that outright practicality, saying that my Mountain Bike fits in the back so that’s good enough for me!

The FX is aimed at keen drivers and its reasonably quick, especially in mid-range  (130mph and 0-60 in 8.2 seconds) propelled by a 235bhp/406Ib/ft. Torque 3.0 ltr V6 diesel. It’s by no means thirsty either, I’ve seen near 38mpg on the motorway too!

Similar to the mighty GTR the Infiniti’s Intelligent All-Wheel Drive (AWD) provides power where and when you need it, instantly adapting to changing conditions. By constantly monitoring wheel-spin, throttle position and vehicle speed, the system automatically diverts up to 50% of the available power to the front wheels, enhancing traction and control in adverse conditions. When all-wheel drive is not needed, 100% of the power is channeled to the rear wheels for more responsive road performance.

Those who are familiar with Nissans will be able to spot some of the switches and buttons from other models such as the Gear Change Paddles from the GTR, but they have been combined with new, high-grade materials. The result is an interior that that combines a tasteful look with first-rate build quality, easily the equal of an X6 or Cayenne, indeed better in places. The seats come in for particular praise: they’re sculpted, highly adjustable, have Bentley-style quilting with variable heat bum warmers! They’re just about as comfortable as seats get!

With a similar age/mileage/condition X6 costing £32,000 upwards and a Cayenne 3.0d starting at £43,000 the FX is unbelievable value for money. I’ve personally owned 3 Cayenne’s since 2004 and an X6 too and in no way do I feel short changed when driving this Infiniti and I guarantee you won’t be either unless you are a badge snob! (I note Sebastian Vettel uses a FX as his daily driver!) I’ve also noted that some of the motoring press say the FX ride is quite hard, utter rubbish, no firmer than an X6 M Sport, indeed I would say less road noise!

Autocar said/highlights

” The FX is now a match for a diesel Cayenne, X6 or Range Rover Sport”

“The Infiniti FX feels like a breath of fresh air amid the ranks of the world’s diesel-engined SUVs. It is   seductively styled, albeit in a brash way. Its exceptionally well built: from the quality of the (Self Repairing) paintwork to the finish of the interior”

“Then there’s value – it might be priced toe-to-toe with more established rivals, but it out-points them comprehensively when it comes to equipment”

“We’d always walk past the petrol cars and head for the diesel – it’s pleasantly refined, reasonably pokey and exceptionally refined. It’s also reasonably economical, too”

“The Infiniti handles, steers and controls the movements of its body at high speeds with genuine dexterity; it is, by and large, an unusually accomplished vehicle in this respect”

“Infiniti is rightly proud of the FX30d’s relatively lightweight 3.0-litre V6 turbo diesel engine, and not merely because it produces 406lb ft of torque at 1750rpm to back up its impressive 235bhp at 3750rpm. More impressive still, reckons the company, is this new powerplant’s refinement, and it doesn’t take too long to work out why”

“Dial in the generally excellent machinations of the seven-speed auto gearbox and you end up with an impressive cocktail of performance”
